FAQs

What is the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment and how does it work?

The Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment™ is a soft wrap that attaches directly to the Tushbaby Hip Seat Carrier to create the first-ever hybrid baby carrier. It offers hands-free support for babies 12–45 lbs and allows you to carry your child face-to-face or forward-facing. Simply attach, wrap, and buckle; then store it neatly in the Tushbaby’s under-seat pocket when not in use.

Watch step-by-step setup tutorials on our Instructional Videos page to learn how to attach and wear your Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment safely and comfortably.

Can I use the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment without the Tushbaby Hip Seat?

The Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment is designed exclusively for use with the Tushbaby Hip Seat Carrier; it’s an attachment, not a standalone baby wrap. Together, they form a supportive 2-in-1 system that evenly distributes your baby’s weight and gives you the flexibility to go hands-free while keeping your baby close.

What age and weight range is the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment best for?

The Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment can be used for babies weighing 12–45 lbs, or roughly from 3 months to 3 years old. For face-to-face carrying, use it between 12–45 lbs, and for forward-facing, start at 16 lbs. It’s not suitable for newborns under 12 lbs, but it’s perfect for infants and toddlers ready for hands-free adventures.

Is the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment safe for my baby?

Yes — the Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment and Tushbaby Hip Carrier combo is tested to the new ASTM F2236-24 safety standard and made from OEKO-TEX 100 certified materials. The Hip Carrier keeps your baby in the recommended “M” sitting position for healthy hip development and ensures a snug, supported fit when properly worn, while the Hands-Free Attachment keeps them close and supported during hands-free babywearing. Always follow babywearing safety guidelines and the T.I.C.K.S. rule: Tight, In View, Close Enough to Kiss, Keep Chin Off Chest, Supported Back. Learn more about the benefits of babywearing on the Tushbaby blog.

How is the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment different from a regular baby wrap?

Traditional baby wraps can be tricky to tie and often lack structure. The Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment combines the comfort of a wrap with the support and storage of a structured carrier by attaching to the Tushbaby Hip Carrier. Its buckle-and-strap design means no endless fabric to twist — just an easy-on, easy-off solution that gives you hands-free flexibility and back support.

How do I clean and store the Tushbaby Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment?

The Hip Seat Hands-Free Attachment is made from a soft, stretchy blend of rayon, polyester, and spandex. It’s machine washable on delicate and should be laid flat to dry. When you’re done babywearing, it folds compactly to fit inside the Tushbaby’s under-seat storage pocket—perfect for on-the-go parents who love convenience.

Need more hip support

"I love the product. I have a 26lb 6 month old . N the seat alone slumps if it's not packed with something large like heavy blanket not the attachment. The attachment is good for smaller babies. I feel his legs r spread to far apart causing growing issues. It's good for shopping but still can't get dishes washed . I'm going to continue to try n make it work since I paid more than I think I should've. Arizona is 116 degrees right now and it's not ideal for summer"

Lifesaving for this Very Short Mama!

"I'm 5' tall and have a very short torso, which has made other structured carriers a nightmare for me—every single one I tried left me with pain in my back, hips, and beyond. Using the Tushbaby (and, often, with the snug wrap) has been a godsend now that my little one is 22 pounds. I was honestly not sure the product could live up to the hype, but I am so glad to have been wrong!"

Sabine C. (5/5)

Amazing!

"I bought the Tush Baby Carrier & the Snug for my 3 month old & he absolutely loved it! We just got back from the beach & it was a lifesaver to hold him & chase my toddler around!"

Alyssa W. (5/5)

Seriously life changing

"I have used every kind of carrier for the last three babies. All were decent. But upon finding this one with the added attachment; it truly changed the dynamic for myself and 6 month old. It’s amazing to use for him facing forward or towards me. I can still nurse easily while wearing him as well. The fabric is so beautifully soft. And I love the light colored faux leather on the hip carrier part. I’ve received so many compliments and shocked to see the two step system with the Tushbaby seat. So not hesitate! Buy it! Put it in your registry. It will absolutely be valuable for years to come"

Rebecca B. (5/5)

Adventure Baby

"We took a family vacation with our 5 month old. He LOVED being able to sit facing outward to look at all of the excitement as we hiked in the National Park, visited lighthouses, and rode a Lobster Boat. It was sooo easy to either have him just sit on the Tush Bump or pull out the hands free attachment to keep him more secure. It was extremely handy to have the Tush Bump to hold him sideways as we Breastfed on all of the above mentioned adventures."

Brittany A. (5/5)

Gigi loves the tushbaby too

"Makes doing things with my grandbaby easier. He has bad acid reflux so he’s extremely fussy and needs to be upright for at least a hour after feeding. He loves the tushbaby and most of the time will fall asleep allowing us to still get things done while keeping him upright after feedings. My back and my arms no longer hurt holding him for so long!"

Teri b. (5/5)

Great product

"This helps me so much, I’m able to carry my chunky baby around for hours without issue when I used to struggle after 20 minutes, it also helps my back pain, I haven’t had a flair up since purchasing this. Only change I wish they would make would be to flip the Velcro around, it gets stuck to my clothes while trying to rotate it after putting it on"

Gabrielle L. (5/5)

love love love my Tushbaby

"You know this was designed my a mom! i feel like every detail is well thought through. easy wear, I no longer have to ask my husbby for help (I am a new mom and still figuring out how to wear it). But I find Tush baby easy to wear. Fits everything I need. The Baby and I did 2 hikes and 2 day outing with our Tushbaby and absolutely love it. highly recommend!"

Dhivya V. (5/5)

This is a game changer

"I've been using the tush baby hip carrier for a couple of years and it has been wonderful. Lately I've needed to be more hands-free with my new baby so I decided to give the attachment a try and it has seriously changed things for the better. The combo of the attachment with the tush baby carrier helped remove back pain and made it easier to carry my baby around for long periods of time. My baby is happy and I'm happy."

Mariya C. (5/5)

Highly recommend!!

"*NOT A MOM* I got this for my best friend though for her baby shower and “money well spent!” I’m so glad for her because this helps avoid some back pain that could happen! This doesn’t replace a core workout! (Start slow after birth ;)"

Q&A

Hi, I love my tushbaby! I know it can hold up to 45lbs but is the snug attachment safe for bigger babies as well? Thank you!
Hi Sara, yes it is! The Snug can also hold up to 45lbs :)
Can you use the snug attachment without using the Tushbaby? Like as a carrier or it has to be worn with the Tushbaby support
Hi there, the Snug is designed to be used exclusively with Tushbaby and Tushbaby Lite carriers. It cannot be used as a standalone carrier or with other carriers
Does the black fade or becomes linty after washing?
We have had no complaints about this :)
Will the snug attachment work with ALL versions of the TushBaby? I bought my TushBaby with extender 3-5 years ago with my first grandbabies.
Yes, the Snug attachment works with all version of the Tushbaby.
Can you use the snug in a piggy back position?
Hi there, no you cannot. It is meant to be worn in the front.
My baby often falls asleep on the tush baby. Can the snug attachment be attached once the baby is already on/asleep or does it need to be attached before baby is on the seat?
Hi Naomi, Yes it can!
Does this fit all sizes? I would like to have myself and my husband use it. Thanks!
The snug is size friendly. It has adjustable straps on the side and the fabric is very stretchy.
Can this be used when the baby is on your hip with the tushbaby? My 14 mo prefers to be on my hip, but I’m afraid to solely use the tushbaby because she sometimes tries to throw herself backwards.
The snug can only be worn with the tushbaby positioned in front of you and not on your hip.
Can this be used with the tush baby lite?
Yes it can!
Can the snug be used with an infant forward facing without over extending the hips
Yes
